We Did It! NMB Water Returning to Quarterly Billing Schedule
We are moving back to quarterly billing.
On the 17th of September, my proposal (Ordinance No. 2019-03) to restore quarterly billing by NMB Water was approved and adopted. This is exciting news. This also means the water bills will effectively decrease throughout the year AND MORE RELIEF IS COMING!
“I’m not seeing a difference in my tap water. I’m seeing a more expensive bill.”
This is a fantastic start to reversing the impact from the decision of a shortsighted and unelected group of commissioners, before my time, voted to burden nearly 200,000 customers in Miami Gardens, Aventura, Sunny Isles, and throughout North-Dade with 3 or 4 times that billing amount.
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Sally Heyman said it best, “I’m not seeing a difference in my tap water. I’m seeing a more expensive bill.” The upset and distrust many feel is understandable. Relief is finally here after recently restoring quarterly billing, our largest single complaint. In doing so, we effectively lowered the bills for 80,000 single-family residences alone.
In our efforts to earn back your trust, we hope to implement policy to assist residents who have fallen behind in bill payments that were excessive. The water utility will hold multiple workshops and send multiple notices regarding the rollback. We have a moral and fiduciary responsibility to manage this precious asset. We hope with your support, provide you with quality service for years to come.
When I ran for office in North Miami Beach last year, tackling the concern of NMB Water customers was my top priority. We are just getting started!
